Accessibility Statement

A house meant to receive weary people should be easy to enter. That applies to its website as well.

Our commitment

We want this website to be usable by as many people as possible, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, screen magnification, voice control, or reduced-motion settings. Accessibility is treated here as part of stewardship rather than as a compliance exercise.

Religious organizations are exempt from Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act under 42 U.S.C. § 12187. We hold ourselves to the standard below anyway, because we believe it is right.

Standard we work to

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. We describe this as an ongoing commitment rather than a certification. The site has not been audited by an independent third party.

Measures taken

  • Semantic HTML with landmark regions, a single main heading per page, and headings in logical order
  • A “skip to main content” link as the first focusable element on every page
  • Visible, high-contrast focus indicators on every interactive element
  • Full keyboard operability, including the navigation menu and expandable biographies; the menu closes on Escape
  • Expandable content marked with aria-expanded and aria-controls
  • Descriptive alternative text for meaningful images; decorative images and graphics hidden from assistive technology
  • Form fields with persistent visible labels and clear indication of required fields
  • Links that open in a new tab announced as doing so
  • Text contrast measured against WCAG AA thresholds on both the dark and light surfaces, with body text at approximately 10:1
  • Motion limited to gentle fades and slow ambient gradients, all of which stop when a visitor’s device requests reduced motion
  • Responsive layouts that reflow without horizontal scrolling and support text resizing to 200%
  • Data tables with captions, row and column headers, and keyboard-scrollable containers
  • No time limits, no auto-playing audio or video, no content that flashes

Known limitations

  • Third-party giving platforms linked from our Partner page are outside our control and may not meet the same standard. If you encounter a barrier while giving, contact us and we will arrange another way to complete your gift.
  • Some concept images on the Remodel & Grounds and Campus pages are placeholders awaiting final renderings. Their alternative text will be revised as real images replace them.
  • The site has not yet been tested with every combination of assistive technology and browser.

We aim to acknowledge accessibility reports within five business days, and we will provide the information you need by another means while we work on a fix.

We can provide the Founding Vision material and any content on this site in another format on request, including large print, plain text, or by telephone conversation.
